WindReach Farm offers a variety of volunteer opportunities depending on your interests. Some of our interesting volunteer roles include:
ADAPTED SPORTS
Weekday morning or afternoon
Assisting program coordinator with running adapted sports programs, such as: tandem cycling, archery, boccia, snowshoeing, cross country skiing.
Great for those who love being outdoors, socializing, teaching and sharing recreational experiences with others.
ADVENTURE LEADER
Weekday morning, afternoon or occasional weekends
Welcoming Day Visitor Program visitors to the Farm; leading groups on Farm tours and providing educational and recreational experiences; assisting a wide range of people of all ages and abilities.
Great for those who love being outdoors, socializing, teaching and sharing animal experiences with others.
ANIMAL CARE
Weekday morning or afternoon
Providing care (feeding, cleaning, grooming and walking) to a variety of animals.
Perfect for those interested in a career in veterinary services or animal lovers who want to learn more about animal care.
BEYOND THE FARM GATE
Weekday morning, afternoon or occasional weekends
Helping program coordinator with running off-site visits out in the community. Visits may be at schools, seniors’ homes or community agencies. Educating small groups about chickens, guinea pigs and bunnies or providing farm education to groups.
Great for those who love educating and teaching others, as well as handling small animals.
BINGO
Monday morning or Sunday afternoon
Assisting with monthly charity bingo off-site (Red Barn Bingo Hall – 172 Wayne Court, Oshawa)
Great for those who want to help with fundraising in the community and participate in a social setting.
CPP/WORK EXPERIENCE
Weekday morning or afternoon
Supporting the coordinator with developing tasks and evaluating client success. Assisting with daily life skills; initial training of new individuals and promoting client independence and socialization. Great for those who enjoy working alongside people with special needs.
GARDENING/HORTICULTURE THERAPY
Weekday morning or afternoon; after weekday orientation – weekends available
Maintaining the various gardens (flower, vegetable and herb) throughout the property. Assisting our horticulture therapist with running programs to groups of up to 10 participants during the weekdays.
Ideal for those with a green thumb who find gardening relaxing.
GROUNDS/FARM
Weekday morning or afternoon
Maintaining the grounds and keeping the property accessible (for animals and visitors).
Perfect for those handy with tools and individuals looking to pursue a career in groundskeeping or maintenance.
HORSE LEADER AND/OR SIDE WALKER
Weekday morning, afternoon, evening and Saturdays
Providing assistance to therapeutic riders with special needs by leading the lesson horse or supporting the rider physically and/or emotionally during the lesson.
Great for those who are horse lovers with or without experience and people looking for a social environment.
OFFICE/STORE ASSISTANT
Weekday morning or afternoon
Assisting with a variety of office-related duties including meeting and greeting day visitors; selling store items and using cash register; telephone, filing and general office duties.
Great for individuals who love to be organized and help out wherever they can.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Mostly Saturdays during seasonal open houses
Assisting with WindReach Farm’s various special events both on-site and off-site. Duties vary depending on the event needs.
Great for anyone who enjoys helping out in their community.
STABLES MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
Weekday morning or afternoon
Assisting with the upkeep of the stables, lesson equipment, tack, as well as the daily care of the horses.
For those who love horses and don’t mind getting dirty as there is always plenty of work to be done.
WOOL VOLUNTEER
